Part-time Caretaker – The Feathers Association

We are seeking a part-time Caretaker for our flagship centre at 12 Rossmore Road, NW1. We would like to see candidates with a
proactive attitude with strong problem-solving skills, who are comfortable working independently and on their own initiative. The
ideal candidate will have a passion for our youth work and a strong community spirit. We feel this role could be ideally suited to
someone based in or near the local area, with a range of maintenance skills that will reduce our reliance on calling in specialist
trades people.

Objectives of the post
• To support the Assistant Operations Manager with the daily management of the youth and community centre;
• To be the face of the Feathers Association, by providing a welcoming, safe and functional environment for children and young
people, visitors, volunteers, staff and other people who operate within the building;
• To deliver all tasks as designated by the Assistant Operations Manager.

The Role

Job Description
• Responsibility for the security of the site, opening and closing the Centre as required;
• Ensuring doors, windows and security systems are in good working order;
• Regularly inspecting the building / facilities, ensuring cleanliness and safety standards are met and undertaking basic
maintenance when required;
• Checking and maintaining systems (e.g. heating / lighting / CCTV / etc.) ensuring timers are set appropriately;
• Arrange and supervise external engineers / regular services providers to come to site to perform specialist repairs and
routine checks;
• Monitor stock levels for cleaning supplies, consumables, tools, etc. and work in partnership with the Receptionists to re-order
when required;
• Responsibility for keys;
• Open and close for weekend facility hire to external parties, ensuring the space is clean and ready for client use, and cleared
at the end of hire, ready for weekday users;
• Undertake painting and decorating when required;
• Work with the Assistant Operations Manager to schedule maintenance and improvement works and report (and help
resolve) any issues.
What success in this role will look like
• The building is clean, safe and in good working order;
• Issues are resolved quickly at minimal cost;
• All health and safety regulatory checks are up to date;
• Users of the building experience a first-class service.

Person Specification – what we are looking for
• Previous experience in a caretaker or equivalent role;
• Basic maintenance knowledge and skills (e.g. plumbing, electrical, decorating, pest control) to be able to undertake simple tasks (e.g. dealing with toilet blockages or changing light fittings) and check and oversee work done by external engineers;
• Good verbal communication skills;
• Proactive attitude striving for high standards;
• Strong problem solver
• Health & Safety at Work / Manual Handling training previously undertaken (desirable)
• One or more of the following trades skills: plumbing, electrician, carpentry, decorating (desirable);
• Basic IT skills (desirable) – in order to log maintenance reports / raise issues though a portal (or a willingness to learn as training will be provided);
• An interest in the work of the Feathers Association and a desire to contribute to providing excellent facilities for young people in the local community.
