(Financial) Compliance Intern – Talent Rise Opportunity

JBR Capital is the UK’s only independent finance provider dedicated solely to high end vehicle finance. JBR Capital offers bespoke specialist finance for modern day cars, supercars, classic cars and historic cars to private individuals and businesses. 

JBR’s Head Office is based in North London. They have around 70 employees who work as a close-knit and nimble team, and take an entrepreneurial but compliant approach to doing business. JBR is private equity backed by Cabot Square Capital and is experiencing strong growth as part of an ambitious 3-year plan. 

JBR is keen to expand its social impact and is working with Talent RISE to develop a meaningful internship programme that helps diverse young talent build careers in professional services. A training provider is also involved who can help candidates with the right attitude and ambition to develop the essential skills needed to join internships later in the year. 

Successful candidates will join JBR’s Compliance function. This is a chance to be part of a proactive team working across many interesting topics. The successful candidate(s) will support the department while developing their compliance knowledge through teamwork and independent activity, particularly focusing on matters arising within JBR’s market. 

Key responsibilities 

The successful candidate will have responsibility for: 

  • supporting the day-to-day compliance function across its areas of responsibility
  • supporting colleagues with key projects and workstreams, some of which will be time sensitive
  • ensuring that, where possible, internal deadlines are met in relation to compliance activities, by foreseeing challenges and suggesting solutions 
  • supporting the compliance and risk assistant with the complaints management function
  • `gaining an understanding of and supporting the team in completion of Data Subject Access Requests (DSARS) within required timeframes 
  • maintaining close contact with colleagues, providing input during discussions and meetings 
  • monitoring developments in the wider motor finance, consumer credit sector and the compliance arena to support learning and growth in the role 
  • maintaining an up-to-date knowledge and awareness of relevant issues and future trends
  • providing input and suggestions into discussions around key policies, papers and ideas
  • supporting in the production of departmental reports / reviews

Skills, traits, qualifications and other criteria 

Successful candidates must have: 

  • a can do attitude, with a desire to succeed and forge a career in a progressive, fast paced Compliance environment 
  • a desire for / interest in a compliance or business role within a Financial Services environment
  • an inquisitive mind, with the ability to challenge the ‘status quo’ (how things are already done)
  • good verbal and written communication skills 
  • ability to work on own initiative, within an team and to help make things happen
  • excellent organisation skills and attention to detail 
  • good working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint 
  • ability and desire to learn to read regulation and consider the impact this may have to JBR now or in the future 
  • a willingness to undertake any criminal and financial records checks relevant to the role
  • be aged 16-30 or under to apply for this opportunity via Talent RISE

  • knowledge / awareness of the regulatory framework within which JBR operate 

Note: if a candidate aged 16-24 has the right attitude and ambition but lacks some of the essential skills listed above then they may be eligible for a Traineeship with Impact Futures including 2 weeks paid work experience with JBR Capital and potential progression into an internship later in the year.
